The Amazing Spider Man 2012 Movie - A Box Office Smash

The superhero movie  "The Amazing Spider Man" already breaking records it looks like summer 2012 is going to, once again.  The Amazing Spider Man well Sony have revealed that it is the first in a trilogy of movies while, I have no doubt, that the Avengers will be back.
So to celebrate the success of this genre at the box over the years we take a look at just how much money these movies have made.

It has been four years since a Batman movie last graced the big screen - The Dark Knight going on to break $1 billion and become one of the biggest movies of all time.
The Amazing Spider-Man is a 2012 American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, portraying the character's origin story and his development into a superhero while still a high school student. The film stars Andrew Garfield in the title role as Spider-Man/Peter Parker, with Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors.
Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images and three theatrical trailers, along with a prologue screening in certain cities, a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox and a viral marketing campaign among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man premiered on June 13, 2012 in Tokyo, Japan and was released in the United States on July 3, 2012 in 3D and in IMAX 3D. The critical reaction to the film was generally favorable with the consensus that Webb and the cast deliver thrills despite having similar elements to the 2002 Spider-Man film due to the following of some of the same source material of the comics.

A young Peter Parker discovers his father's study has been broken into. His father, Richard, gathers up hidden documents, and Peter's parents take him to the home of his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, then mysteriously depart. Years later, a teenage Peter attends Midtown Science High School, where he is bullied by Flash Thompson and has caught the eye of Gwen Stacy. At home, Peter finds Richard's papers, and learns his father worked with fellow scientist Dr. Curt Connors at Oscorp. Faking his way into Oscorp as one of a group of high-school interns, Peter sneaks into a lab where a "biocable" is being created from genetically modified spiders, one of which bites him. On the subway ride home, he is shocked to find strange spider-like abilities manifesting.

The review aggregator film site Rotten Tomatoes reported an 73% approval rating, based on 228 reviews, with an average rating of 6.7/10. It offers the consensus: "A well-chosen cast and sure-handed direction allows The Amazing Spider-Man to thrill despite revisiting many of the same plot points from 2002's Spider-Man." On Metacritic, the film achieved an average score of 66 out of 100, based on 42 critics, signifying "generally favorable reviews". CinemaScore reported that audience gave a A- grade for the film.

The Amazing Spider-Man has earned $95,718,000 in North America, as of July 5, 2012, and $50,200,000 in other countries, as of July 1, 2012, for a worldwide total of $145,918,000.
In North America, the film earned an estimated $7.5 million during its midnight run at 3,150 locations, including $1.2 million from 300 IMAX venues. On its opening day, a pre-holiday Tuesday, it surpassed Transformer’s Tuesday gross ($27.9 million) with $35 million to set the highest-Tuesday gross record. The next day, the film dropped 33.4% to $23.3 million—the second-highest non-opening Wednesday. Compared to other Fourth of July openers, The Amazing Spider-Man’s two-day gross is behind Transformers’ and Spider-Man 2's two day start of $65.7 million and $64.3 million respectively.

Outside North America, The Amazing Spider-Man grossed $51.1 million on its 5-day opening weekend (June 27 – July 1, 2012) from 13 markets, with strong openings in many Asian countries. In India, it earned $6.0 million, marking the biggest opening for a Hollywood film.

Immortals - Action Adventure 3D Hollywood Movie

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ae/Immortals_poster.jpg

The action adventure film Immortals will be releasing on 11.11.11.  It was directed by Tarsem Singh and actor Freida Pinto. The film also stars Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Stephen Dorff, Alan Van Sprang, Isabel Lucas, and John Hurt. The film was previously named Dawn of War and War of the Gods before being officially named Immortals, and is loosely based on the Greek myths of Theseus and the Minotaur and the Titanomachy.  It is set to be released in 2D and in 3-D (using the Real D 3D and Digital 3D formats) on November 11, 2011 by Universal Pictures and Relativity Media.

Years after the Titanomachy, the Titan Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) declares war on humanity. He searches for the Epirus Bow, a legendary weapon created by the war god Ares (Daniel Sharman), which will allow him to free the rest of the Titans from Tartarus and take revenge on the Olympians who brought about their downfall. In accordance with ancient laws, the gods are unable to take a side in the war between Hyperion and humanity. It is left to Theseus (Henry Cavill), son of Poseidon (Kellan Lutz) chosen by Zeus (Luke Evans) and accompanied by the priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and a slave named Stavros (Stephen Dorff), to protect his homeland and save the gods.

Immortals narrate the story of a heroic battle between gods and mortals.  It is also the story of a brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Oscar-nominated Mickey Rourke) and his murderous army rampaging across Greece searching for the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, he could overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world.

The $75 million Immortals, an average budget for a Hollywood film,  is in 3D and comes from the same producers who scored a surprise hit with their historical yarn 300 a few years ago, earning $460 million worldwide.

In immortals, the idea of turning the stories from Greek mythology into a fast-moving, dark and emotionally compelling film that could resonate with the viewers across the globe was adopted by Tarsem.

People worldwide will see the film as one man's journey from a non-believer to a believer, Tarsem says, and will also watch how the Gods have to take certain decisions that go against their conventional wisdom.

Those who have watched the film's advertisement, preview shots and read a lot about it, know it is anything but a staid classical story-telling. 'It's in your face,' says Canton. 'We're not playing it safe. History is not safe. Mythology is not safe. And we're really not interested in safe.'
This movie incorporates classical Greek myths filmed using 3D technology, necessitating extensive post production. Director Tarsem Singh said that he is planning an action movie using Renaissance painting styles. He then goes on to say that he is "Basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club. It's a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I want to see how that goes; it's turned into something really cool. I'm going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I'm kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity. So it's a bit like Baz Luhrman doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it's just taking a particular Greek tale and half (make it contemporary) and telling it."

‘The Hurt Locker' is the Best Picture Ocard Award

‘The Hurt Locker' is the Best Picture Ocard Award

The Iraq War drama penned by Mark Boal, ‘The Hurt Locker,' has won best picture and in total five Academy Awards, beating James Cameroon’s ‘Avatar.’

Director Kathryn Bigelow has become the first woman in the 82-year history of the Oscars to win the Hollywood's top prize for filmmakers.

The other movies which were in the race to win the Oscar Award for the Best Picture are ‘Avatar,’ ‘The Blind Side,’ ‘District 9,’ ‘An Education,’ ‘Inglorious Bastards,’ ‘Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire,’ ‘A Serious Man,’ ‘Up,’ and ‘Up In The Air.’

Also, for the first time in the history of the Academy Awards, 10 films were nominated for the award for Best Movie in order to provide wider choice to the jury to judge.

The Hurt Locker is a 2008 American war film. It follows a United States Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team during the Iraq War.

The film was directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The screenplay was written by Mark Boal, a freelance writer who was embedded as a journalist in 2004 with a US bomb squad in Iraq. It stars Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty as members of a U.S. Army EOD unit in Iraq and follows their tour together as they contend with defusing bombs, the threat of insurgency, and the tension that develops among them. The film was shot in Jordan, within miles of the Iraq border.

It was first released theatrically in Italy in 2008, when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival. After being shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in North America, it was picked up for distribution in the United States by Summit Entertainment. It was released in the United States on June 26, 2009, in New York and Los Angeles. Based on the success of its limited run, the independent film received a more widespread theatrical release in the United States on July 24, 2009. Because the 2008 film was not originally released in the U.S. (at least in an Oscar-qualifying run in L.A.) until 2009, it was eligible to be judged for that year's awards, the 82nd Academy Awards held in 2010.

The Hurt Locker was one of the most acclaimed films of 2009, earning awards and honors from numerous critics' organizations, festivals and groups. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won six, including Best Picture and Best Director for Bigelow, who became the first woman to win the award. The film also swept the 2010 BAFTA Awards, winning best film, director, original screenplay, editing, cinematography and sound.

Why 'Avatar' lost the Oscars?

Why 'Avatar' lost the Oscars?

‘Avatar’ is the biggest movie of all times. Record earnings, and record shows. James Cameroon’s movie took the standards much higher to the limit no one had ever dared of. But still, it failed to shine at the Oscars.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of "Titanic," first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang. The film is set in the year 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi — a sentient humanoid species indigenous to Pandora. The film's title refers to the genetically engineered Na'vi and human hybrid bodies used by several human characters to interact with the natives of Pandora.

Development on Avatar began in 1994, when Cameron wrote an 80-page scriptment for the film. Filming was supposed to take place after the completion of Cameron's 1997 film Titanic, for a planned release in 1999, but according to Cameron, the necessary technology was not yet available to achieve his vision of the film.  Work on the language for the film's extraterrestrial beings began in summer 2005, and Cameron began developing the screenplay and fictional universe in early 2006.
Avatar was officially budgeted at US$237 million. Other estimates put the cost between $280 million and $310 million for production, and at $150 million for promotion. The film was released for traditional two-dimensional projectors, as well as in 3-D, using the RealD 3D, Dolby 3D, XpanD 3D and IMAX 3D formats, and also in 4-D. The stereoscopic filmmaking was touted as a likely breakthrough in cinematic technology.
Avatar premiered in London on December 10, 2009, and was released overseas on December 16 and in North America on December 18, to critical acclaim and commercial success. The film broke several box office records during its release and became the highest-grossing film of all time in North America and worldwide, surpassing Titanic, which had held the records for the previous 12 years. It also became the first film to gross more than $2 billion. Following the film's success, Cameron stated that there will be a sequel. Avatar was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won three for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction.
